Women to Watch: Dr. Denise Simpson Ph.D, of Simpson Strategies

Dr. Denise Simpson, Life and Leadership Coach and CEO of Simpson Strategies, believes in a world where each individual is living their greatest purpose. Determined to fulfill this calling through her practice, she has created a movement to achieve lasting impact through unleashing the power of potential in others. Inspired by her mother’s life and battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Simpson honors her legacy through serving others, while living with purpose and intent. She is a change-maker, empowering individuals to live more joyous, loving and aligned lives, and the reverberations of her work affect entire communities. A nationally recognized expert in her field with a Ph.D in leadership studies, Simpson’s practice focuses on evidence-based strategies with an emphasis on neuroscience. She shares her thoughts on career, community, and philosophy as they relate to her mission in life.

On Career:

I prefer to think of what I do not as a career, but as a vocation. Many people accomplish very successful careers that, in the end, leave them personally unfulfilled with nothing they have contributed to the world they’ve left behind. For me, coaching is a calling. It is something I have been blessed with a gift for, so I feel empowered to use it. I measure success not by dollar signs and decimal places, or by the letters after my name, but by the lives I help transform.

On Community:

Nothing exists in a vacuum. Scientifically, we are all connected energetically and vibrationally. When one of us suffers, we all suffer. A strong sense of community was ingrained in me at an early age, by a father who was a fierce patriot and fought for his country, and a mother who dedicated her life to caring for the sick in a South Texas border community.

Serving others is at my core, and most of my decisions are formed from the driving principles of servant leadership. A collection of individuals seeking only selfish ends cannot last, but a community can last forever. I see giving back to my community, which is my extended family, as a way to perpetuate my legacy and make the world a better place.

On Alignment (Her Life Philosophy):

I see a stark difference in career and calling. By answering a calling, each of us is aligned with our highest, most divine purpose. Every person living in alignment affects those around them and allows others to do the same.

Imagine our communities, or even an entire world, where everyone goes to “work” each day doing what the universe or creator has gifted them to do, and what affords them the most pleasure out of life. This is the movement I want to create in my lifetime- one person at a time. I strive to live each day in alignment with my divine purpose and inspire others to do the same.

On her personal female hero:

I was blessed to have been raised by a mother, Sonia Garcia, who dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse in Laredo, Texas. Her life took a devastating turn when she was diagnosed with Dementia at 48 years old and later died at the age of 62 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

To witness her suffering throughout those years of cognitive decline, I made a conscious choice to continue her legacy of serving others. I promised her on the day she left her physical body, to honor her memory by living my life with purpose and intent. More importantly, to empower others to do the same. I could not let the years of suffering she endured to be in vain. With that spirit, I have dedicated my life to helping others live their highest purpose and encourage them to leverage their pain and suffering so they may live more loving, joyous, and aligned lives.
