Texas Women To Watch 2019: Heather Kubeczka of Lone Star Staffing, LLC

My personal mission in this stage of life is to be invested in the day to day with my family, all while maintaining a successful and lucrative business that my kids can be proud to run one day.

What was the defining moment in your past that set you on the career path you ended up following?

I took a complete leap of faith and left my job working for a major corporation. I was overworked, underpaid, and always stressed. And truthfully, my productivity (as proud as I was of it) had little to no impact on a company that size. It was time to make a change. With my husband’s encouragement, I googled my way into becoming an entrepreneur. Having a background in the staffing industry, I knew that with persistence, I could be successful.

What makes you unique in your industry?

Here in Houston, it seems like there is a staffing agency on every block—it’s an extremely competitive industry and the feeling of your competitors constantly on your heels is exhausting. It’s imperative to set yourself apart and break away from the pack. The two most important things that help us do so are tenacity and integrity. I market my company as a group of recruiters who find the unfindable (i.e. professionals with specific skill sets our customers need). We will exhaust all efforts to locate exactly the right person to fulfill our clients’ hiring needs and exceed expectations. As equally important is integrity—treating all contacts with respect, kindness, and honesty are almost lost in the staffing world. In other words, we are working hard to create an exceptional experience within every interaction, whether it is with a client or job seeker.

What is one way you hope to impact your community in the future, either personally or professionally?

As a mom to three kids under the age of 6, I hope my story inspires other women (or men) with young children to follow their passions and start their own businesses right out of their homes. There’s a very common misconception that women who work are “working moms” and women who don’t work are “stay at home moms.” Real talk here—that’s BS. Working moms should be allowed to be stay at home moms and vice versa. My goal and hopeful impact on my community is to continue to provide work opportunities for entrepreneurially-spirited women and men who desire the flexibility of working from home.

If you could sit down with any woman in the world–either from history or who is currently living–who would that be and what would you discuss with her?

There are so many amazing women I’d love to talk to if I could—Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc, my grandmother in heaven, and my mom as a 26 year old. But if I had to choose just one woman, my mind goes straight to Mary, mother of Jesus.
