Meet The Council

The SA Cancer Council is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that funds the fight against cancer. Over the past 35 years, the Council has donated more than $5 million to the the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, to support cancer research and assist patients. Direct donations and funds raised at their events involve hundreds of members throughout the greater San Antonio community. As a result, SA Cancer Council provides financial and logistical support to patients in need and funds cutting-edge clinical research to help prevent and eradicate cancer at the Mays Cancer Center, this region’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center (one of only four in Texas and one of only 71 in the country).

Legacy Leader Statement:
I believe that over the years, the SA Cancer Council has been the ‘eyes and ears’ in San Antonio for the Cancer Center.  We have raised large sums of philanthropic support for capital campaigns, cancer research and patient care, but, in the process, we have made the community aware of the world-class cancer treatment available right here.  Whether it was at our luncheons or the Cure Cancer Card, or a golf tournament, we educated and built awareness.
Today, with the Mays Cancer Center’s collaboration with MD Anderson, we are able to expand our reach as we serve San Antonio and South Texas. And, when we become aware of someone in need who is facing a cancer diagnosis, we can help them navigate to the Mays Cancer Center so that they receive the exceptional personalized care that they need.  We also help educate the need for early detection and prevention.
