Atypical Ambiance: A Very Merry 1950’s Holiday Soirée

It’s a comfortable 68 degrees in San Antonio, TX and the scene has been set in my downtown loft. The year is 1952, Christmas jazz is playing and one of my dearest friends, Satchie Seidlits has created a Cranberry Winter Mojito to present to guests upon arrival. As each woman enters the scene–a 1950’s window display to be exact–she can’t help but nearly squeal with excitement, almost on cue, announcing her arrival.

I invite you to enter my 1950’s wonderland, and hope you feel inspired to create an out-of-the-ordinary gathering of your own this new year that lifts the people in your life.

Atypical Recipes:

Enjoy the special concoction Satchie created custom for the event. As a non-drinker, I am always looking for a festive signature beverage that works for both those who drink and for those who don’t. Satchie’s culinary curation was the perfect mixture.

Satchie’s Cranberry Winter Mojito

1. A handful of fresh mint, muddled
2. One 32-ounce bottle of organic cranberry juice
(Her favorite brand is R.W. Knudson Family Organic “Just Cranberry” juice– no sweeteners, no other ingredients, just tart cranberry)
3. 1/4 cup of lime juice
4. 1/4 cup of orange juice (she used mandarin orange juice)
5. 2 teaspoons of agave for a little bit of sweetness
6. Seeds from one pomegranate

*This is your base. Fill your pitcher half with this base mixture and half with unflavored sparkling water.
(1:1 ratio of sparkling water to base mixture.)

Add rum and a splash of St. Germaine, garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Meet my multi-talented gal pals who donned their vintage glam and joined me for a walk down my Atypical Avenue:
